Electrolytes are minerals that carries electric charge, found in blood. These minerals are important for fuelling of the body’s cells which includes nerve, heart, muscle, etc. There is loss of electrolyte, especially sodium and potassium, in the body when you engage in energetic exercise. Electrolytes are also commonly depleted during sessions of nausea and vomiting usually accompanied with expulsion of a lot of body fluid. This puts the body to hard work of refuelling the electrolyte concentration in the body fluids.
After workouts, you may think it is healthy to drink Gatorade. Gatorade and other similar sport drinks are full of electrolytes but also contains tons of sugar and other ingredients that does more harm to the body cells than good. Truth is, you avoid using them to boost your electrolyte count. You can make your own electrolyte cocktail using natural ingredients.
Below is a recipe for making an all-natural electrolyte cocktail that will keep you revitalized after a workout or a session of illness.
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup fresh orange juice
2 cups of filtered water or raw coconut water
1/8 teaspoon Himalayan Pink salt or sea salt
2 tablespoon organic honey or organic maple syrup
Blend all ingredients together in a blender. Best drunk cold!
